Feeling hot, hot, hot

Sometimes dreams come true…..most of the time they don’t. Or well, that sounds to negative, sometimes they meet reality. Like they do now. Curacao sure looks like the dream pictures you see in every brochure and travel guide. As a matter of fact, we only live a 5 minute walk away from the famous Handelskade, you know those famous pastel coloured houses? I’ll make sure there’s a picture of it next time. And the water…….it is truthfully the bluest I’ve ever seen! But who every tells you again that the heat here is completely different from the heat we get in Holland. Whoever gives you that “ow, it’s such nice weather and there is always a nice breeze so it never gets to hot.” Tell them to take a hike. It’s fucking boiling here !! We came from a 2 degree celcius into a 26 degree in the evening. There was no air-conditioning, no fan, couldn’t open any window or door because of the mosquitoes. Imagine trying to sleep.
But hey, no complaints, we are living the dream ! We are living in the baby blue apartment we saw on the picture and…….hold on, were there not supposed to be 2 rooms? And where are the pots and pans, the crockery and cutlery? I don’t mind living with more than 30 Dutch students in a Dutch enclave, but I do need some room in the fridge. A mirror and a second key wouldn’t suck either. O boy, another dream broken to pieces (don’t forget to check the pictures: dream against reality).
But hey, no complaints, we are living the dream ! We are living the dream of many dutchies: we are back to the Gulden. And that, I must admit, isn’t too bad. It makes living a bit cheaper and it’s nice to see Beatrix once in a while again. It feels a bit strange to be speaking Dutch here I must say, but that too makes life easier. Could I speak Spanish, it would even be better, but who knows, my Papiamenthu might improve while I’m out here.
Sunday we truly lived the dream. We took the bus to Jan Thiel Beach and rented a beach bed at Zanzibar. The sea was blue, the beach was white, the waiters friendly, the food good and the drinks cold. If only I didn’t have to suffer from the sunburn I have now.
But, also dreams don’t come for free, so today we’ve been looking for work. We handed out our CV at several places and will do that again tomorow. Then we just wait I guess, till they call us. Yes that’s right, my phone number. I’ll put down my address and phone number down here, for those who might need it. As a matter of fact, if you feel like a holiday, you are most welcome. It will only cost you a ticket and 15 gulden (+/- 6 euro) per night.
