I’m happy to tell you that I arrived safely and that I’m back in business again….but it’s hard. Not having worked for 5½ months and now putting up tents, it’s not easy. And don’t forget the difference in temperature, going from a steaming 37 to approximately 14 to 18 degrees. No wonder I’m suffering from a cold right now. But I’m loving it ! So far I haven’t seen that much of the area yet, besides the campsites, but what I’ve seen is beautiful.
The beaches are amazing, clean and enormous and surrounded by pine forest, with plenty of cycle and walking paths. The area we (me and my area manager, Abi) are covering is a lot smaller than last year, only 4 campsites very close together, but I don’t want to be too enthusiastic until we get to high season. The roads are filled with campsites, restaurants, bicycle and quadbike rental places, so I predict a lot of traffic that will slow us down. By the way, one of the campsites is on an island, Ile de Ré, how cool is that?
At the moment we are on the second campsite (we have to montage 6 in total) and things are going smooth. Tents are up and I still have the luxury of living in a mobile home. My base campsite will be the last one, so it will take some time before my ‘house’ will be build. By the way, the address on top is my postal address, in case you’d like to send me anything (Gouda cheese, Roti, Stroopwafels, that kind of stuff or just cards and letters). My phone number is there as well. My Dutch phone will not be working from now on.
For those people who are considering to come and see me some time, I can’t offer you any free accommodation this year. I can get you a 40% discount in low season and a 20% discount in high season on any Eurocamp/Keycamp vacation, but that’s it. It might be more interesting to find a small hotel or a cheap campsite. I will keep an eye open for good places. It might be worth trying to find a spot on my campsite, because it’s actually right on the beach .
That’s it for now. I’ll try and get some pictures next time of the tent building process and maybe some of the area.
